In New Albany, Ohio, Meta (Facebook’s parent company) is building new tent-style data centers that the company says are more efficient for water and power use. To date, several of these structures have quickly been erected just north of Morse Road and on Miller Road, close to the Intel site. (The structures, ironically, look very similar to the historic Heimerl family barn (pictured on the right) that still exists nearby, on Beech Road, on property now owned by Intel.) In a June article published by The Economist, an estimated $3 trillion will be spent on data centers through 2030. Currently, Ohio has the fourth largest concentration with many of the centers based in Central Ohio, specifically in the New Albany International Business Park, which involves both Franklin and Licking counties.

Meanwhile, according to Meta, New Albany has most benefitted from the community grants that the company offers in towns where it builds data storage across the country. Since 2019, Meta reports that it has provided 134 grants totaling more than $7 million to the New Albany community, including the New Albany-Plain Township School District.
